(i wrote about this a couple of days ago..where i made the case we are odds-on for a bit of war-mongering..
..(those wannabe armchair-warriors on nationals’ front bench could almost guarantee that outcome..)
..this (premature) refusal from australia only confirms that the question will be asked of key..
..and how will he respond..?..)
“..Defence Minister Joel Fitzgibbon says he has not been asked to increase Australia’s troop commitment to Afghanistan at a meeting of defence ministers in the United States.
Mr Fitzgibbon says US Defence Secretary Robert Gates has indicated he will increase troop numbers in Afghanistan, where US and NATO-led forces are fighting Taliban insurgents.
But he says Australia has not been asked to increase its commitment.
“They understand that we’re at about capacity and we’re not in a position to do a whole lot more,” he said.
“I’m sure Secretary Gates’ focus and President-elect Obama’s focus, is not on Australia..
..but on those NATO nations which I would best describe as under-committed.”
