not being a sth auckland resident…my exposure to len brown has been sporadic at best..
..and to me he had always appeared uncomfortable in his skin..and uncomfortable before the media…
..so it was with some trepidation i watched the re-run of his ‘big debate’ with john banks..
..thinking banks wd cream brown in that environment..
(disclaimer:..seeing as the right have wrought this new super-city..i see it as imperative the ‘left’ get to set it up/run it…eh..?..
..and thanks for the dog-parks..mr banks..but it ain’t enough…eh..?..)
so it was quite a pleasant surprise to see a relaxed/sure len brown….running rings around a seemingly uptight/unsure banks…
..maybe banks had just seen the exit-polls…showing brown with a seemingly insurmountable lead..?)
..and brown got some king hits in on banks…not least being the st james theatre…
..banks was left gasping…when after vowing what he wd do to save the st james..
..he was asked why he had done nothing to date/in his time as mayor..ka-pow..!
(..as an aside…there were some bizarre moments in this telly-exercise…
not least being a ‘weird’ phonetics-test..involving different languages…
..just what the point of that was is somewhat unclear…
plus..and this is the big one..three quarters of the way through.the whole debate is put on hold..
for the feckin’ financial-report from the man who put ponder into ponderous…michael wilson…(!)
who t.f. thought that was a goer…?
..and cd tv3 plse give wilson his own halfhour weekend program…?..so those who wish to avoid him can…?…
btw..i blame wilson..and the loud/cheezy sports-guy for the demise of the tv3 breakfast show…eh..?
..both of them together in any morning…was just too much…eh..?
..mind you..the cheezy-one has gone on to bigger and better things on tv one..
..so w.t.f. do i know…?..eh..?..)
the final weird piece (that backfired on the right/banks)..was getting the rightwing blogger whaleoil to stand up and play the race-card….
…asking len brown (in an accusatory/’gotcha!’-manner) to repeat what he had said at a previous meeting…
….about maori representation on the new super-city council…
…brown was most emphatic in his assurance that he would be working to achieve those ends….
..and banks played the we-are-all-one-people…and-nobody-should-be-favoured-over-the-other card….
..thereby cementing the redkneck/racist-vote….(which he already has…meh..!..)
..but just like the dog-parks…
…it ain’t/won’t be enough…eh..?..
