“…Labour leader David Shearer “revved up” his caucus colleagues this week over in-fighting and murmurs about his leadership – but nagging questions over unity have already re-emerged.

The Income Tax (Universalisation of In-work Tax Credit) Amendment Bill, led by Green MP Catherine Delahunty, was pulled from the ballot on Thursday and will be debated by MPs next month.

It would extend the “in-work” tax credit for families to people who are not in work and are beneficiaries.

Labour campaigned for the policy at last year’s election – but has not committed to it since suffering its worst result in decades.

It appears set to dump the policy – selling a U-turn on the basis of finding new ways of lifting children out of poverty…”
