Questions to Ministers
..english does a politics-drenched tribute to the soldiers who were killed in afghanistan..(he could have left the politics out..and it is kinda shabby/cheap that he was unable to resist politicising his speech..)
..shearer repats the canard that the ‘stability’ in bamiyan province is down to the efforts of the new zealand soldiers..the facts of the matter are that bamiyan has always been one of the most peaceful provinces..for a raft of reasons..and that ‘peace’ very little to do with nz soldiers..
..peters highlights the shabbiness of english when he notes that the politics of being in afghanistan are ‘for another day’..
..banks bangs on about ‘the greatest-battles’ (!)..how they have ‘forged’ us..of new zealand history..
(if there were bunting..he would be cloaking/wrapping himself with/in it..)
..dunne joins banks in showing signs of desiring some of that bunting..
..mccully then switches tack…and does an olympics-puff-piece…
..(amazing how the words for both olympics and afghanistan are so similar..
..close yr eyes and he could be talking of either..and he goes on and on and bloody on..)
it is then shearers’ turn to go on and on..and bloody on..
hague gives the best speech..
..peters gets points for being mercifully brief…
(i wonder when parliament will get their act together..and provide onscreen translations for those not conversant in te reo..?..it is 2012..and it’s not bloody rocket-science…eh..?..)
..harawira cracks a joke…(doing his (brief) translation of flavells long speech in te reo..saying sharples had txted him asking him to be translator..)..he also gets points for brevity..
..banks and dunne do their dynamic-duo numbers…(interchangable really..those two..and dunne has got paul ryan-hair..)
(45 mins of that..!..what a bloody marathon..!..)
1)..DAVID SHEARER to the Prime Minister: Does he stand by all his recent statements?
shearer is having a play with keys’/nationals claims to both want ‘more qualified’ teachers…
..and to be totally relaxed about charter schools not having ‘qualified-teachers’..
peters is questioning the claim from key that he ‘only heard of kim dotcom the day before the raid’…
2)..Hon TAU HENARE to the Minister of Finance: What reports has he received on the cost of living?
3)..Dr RUSSEL NORMAN to the Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment: How many New Zealanders are unemployed and by how many has that number increased since the quarter immediately before National came to power in 2008?
unemployment up by 65,000 under national…(we have slipped from 8th to 14th internationally..)
joyce tells norman ‘to grow up’…(good grief..!..)
(norman has the ability to rattle joyce…it’s funny to watch..)
4)..Hon DAVID PARKER to the Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment: How many people were employed in the manufacturing sector when he took office in 2008, and how many people are employed in the manufacturing sector now, according to the most recent data produced by Statistics New Zealand?
parkers paws somewhat ineffectually at joyce…
5)..Peseta SAM LOTU-IIGA to the Minister for Social Development: What reports has she received on the public submissions on the Green Paper for Vulnerable Children about how to better protect our most vulnerable children from abuse and neglect?
6)..JACINDA ARDERN to the Minister for Social Development: Does she stand by her statement “I want to make sure the Ministry of Social Development is focused on its core responsibilities in the years ahead, in particular those families stuck in long-term poverty. I don’t underestimate the challenges associated with this, but I intend to make it a priority.”?
bennett dosen’t know how many children live in poverty..(!)
..ardern is making a fair fist of holding bennett to account..
..the only rejoinder from bennett being pointing out how labour did nothing foe the poorest..for nine long years..(which can’t be argued with..)
7)..HOLLY WALKER to the Minister of Housing: What are Housing New Zealand’s time frames for responding to maintenance requests, and in what percentage of cases are those time-frames met?
walker does the same time/question-wasting tactic of citing individual tenants’ cases that parker did..
(why do mp’s do that..?..so easy for the responsible minister to just say they don’t know about that case..’send me the details’..)
8)..KATRINA SHANKS to the Minister for Courts: What recent announcements has he made on the modernisation of our courts system?
(some courthouses are to close..)
9)..Hon NANAIA MAHUTA to the Minister of Education: Does she agree with the Prime Minister that National Standards data is currently “very ropey”?
10)..NIKKI KAYE to the Minister of Housing: What reports has he received on his alleged visit to 44 Symonds Street earlier this year?
..heatley loses it…accuses king of ‘making up stories’..
11)..BRENDAN HORAN to the Associate Minister of Transport: Is he satisfied that everything is being done to maintain KiwiRail safety?
horan and his ‘rotten-rail-sleepers’..again..
..200 maintenance workers have been laid off by kiwirail…
..with horan alleging ‘thousands of rotten-sleepers’…
12)..PHIL TWYFORD to the Minister for State Owned Enterprises: What advice has he received on the likelihood of KiwiRail finding $3.85 billion from its own balance sheet as required by the Turnaround Plan?
..ryall says they won’t find that money…
Questions to Members
MOANA MACKEY to the Chairperson of the Transport and Industrial Relations Committee: How many submissions have been received on the petition of Meng Foon “that the House of Representatives note that 10,240 people have signed a petition calling on KiwiRail and the Government to repair the Gisborne to Napier railway line, and that the House support this demand”?
..summary:..norman gets a mention for his rattling of joyce..
..but not much else of any note was said/done by anyone else..
..a 1.5/10 questiontime..
