Questions to Ministers
1)..Hon Dr NICK SMITH to the Minister of Finance: What progress is the Government making in its infrastructure investment programme?
2)..HOLLY WALKER to the Minister of Finance: What comparative impact has Working for Families had on poverty rates for the children of working parents, and the children of beneficiaries, using the fixed line measure of 60 percent of median income adjusted for housing costs?
working for families halved poverty in working families…did nothing for the poverty rates in beneficiary-families..
english just says that they should just get a job…and defends doing nothing for the child-poverty amongst beneficiaries..
3)..DAVID SHEARER to the Prime Minister: Does he stand by all his statements?
key says there is no need for a rethink on the asset-sales..
(shearer is making a fair fist of detailing the financial-’troubles’ in those assets…but there was no oomph/bite/edge to his questioning..)
4)..SIMON O’CONNOR to the Minister of Science and Innovation: What investment is the Government making in innovative research and development?
5)..Hon DAVID PARKER to the Minister of Finance: Has the New Zealand Superannuation Fund invested 40 percent of its assets in New Zealand; if not, what was the percentage in 2008 and what is it now?
26.8% invested here…
(key is not looking his usual ebullient self…he’s looking decidedly down-at-mouth/glum..)
..and parker tries…but rarely succeeds..
6)..Rt Hon WINSTON PETERS to the Prime Minister: Does he have confidence in his Ministers; if so, why?
peters is hunting the scalp of maurice williamson..(around may wang..)..and ends up just interminably wrangling with the speaker..over the wording of his questions..
..and has a major fail..really..
..key just seemed to sneer/smirk his way through it all…
7)..Hon NANAIA MAHUTA to the Minister of Education: How many of the 36 Person A Ministerial Inquiry actions she has adopted will apply to non-registered teachers working in Partnership Schools?
8)..JULIE ANNE GENTER to the Minister of Transport: Will he reconsider the Government’s motorway projects, in light of the impact that record high petrol prices may have on motorway usage; if not, why not?
(ed:..it’s genter vs.brownlee..one of the more interesting match-ups..genter has the ability to rattle brownlee..and it can be fun to watch..)
brownlee makes the astounding claim that high fuel prices will have ‘no effect’ in/on any planning on the big spend-up on motorways..
(there has been no growth in annual traffic-numbers since 2004…)
genter cites greece as a country that borrowed billions for roads over the last ten years…
(genter has a gotcha! when brownlee claims the problem with greece is that they spent all that money on ‘a monolithic-rail-system’..
..genter then whips out an e.u. document showing that most of that money was actually spent on motorways..brownlee/the govt refuses to let her table that gotcha!…)
9)..Dr CAM CALDER to the Minister of Health: What commitments has the Government made as part of its action plan to support vulnerable children?
..ardern notes that the latest govt word-fest/plan on child-poverty..to be done after 2014(!)..has the unfortunate acronym of c.r.a.p…
10)..Hon MARYAN STREET to the Minister of Health: Does he stand by all his recent statements on health?
(street seems unable to get traction against ryall…
..she has no rejoinders to his spin..
11)..MIKE SABIN to the Minister of Housing: What is Housing New Zealand doing to identify and address fraudulent behaviour by some tenants?
12)..IAIN LEES-GALLOWAY to the Prime Minister: What assurances, if any, has he and the Minister of Defence received about the safety of the New Zealand Provincial Reconstruction Team in Afghanistan?
key defends our soldiers riding around in tin-cans/humvees…says it is ‘an operational matter’…
summary:..number 8 was the most interesting question/response..with genter getting performer/gotcha! of the day..against brownlee..
..and the surprise of the day was the paucity of attack/questioning about our soldiers being forced to ride around in tin-can/death-trap humvees..while their allies have vehicles that protect their soldiers…w.t.f..!..eh..?
..nothing much else of any note happened..a 3/10 questiontime..
