“…Police Seek Clues Outside Slain Sex Worker’s Old Flat..”

“… Detectives seeking to solve the 1993 cold-case killing of Jane Furlong yesterday turned their attention to her former flat in South Auckland.

Officers and forensic experts spent yesterday sifting through dirt which they had dug up at the front of a property in Heretaunga Ave, Onehunga.

Although not visible from the roadside, the dig scene is near a parking bay in front of the Onehunga flat.

Officers had removed a tree and other shrubs. A pile of dirt was visible near the driveway and police and forensic staff were sifting the dirt in metal pans.

Other material was bagged up and tagged “ESR” for further forensic investigation.

The dig is happening outside the flat that Furlong shared with her boyfriend, Danny Norsworthy, at the time of her disappearance.

Inquiry head Detective Inspector Mark Benefield said yesterday: “The operation is acting on some information that requires further investigation.

“The activity is taking place outside the same block of flats as Jane’s old address.”..”
