“…Southland Medical Professional Paid $830,000…”

“…A mystery medical professional in Southland is pulling an “extraordinary” $830,000 salary.

Southern District Health Board (DHB) chief executive Carole Heatley was questioned over the unnamed employee during a health select committee hearing at Parliament today.

Labour’s health spokeswoman Maryan Street highlighted “one outstanding entry” in the DHB’s employee remuneration section of its report to the committee.

“One employee is earning somewhere between $820,000 and $830,000 … That seems to me to be an extraordinary amount for any one person,” Street said.

“Obviously it’s a clinician and I don’t wish to know any personal details – that’s not proper – but to have a clinician paid $820,000 to $830,000 is extraordinary across any of the DHBs.”

Heatley confirmed the salary was being paid to one clinical specialist who was “doing more than the normal contracted hours.”..”
