Hamilton City Council chief executive Barry Harris has defended hiring corporate espionage experts to sweep his office for electronic bugs, after a series of leaks to media last year.
Mr Harris said he could not recall the cost, but security industry sources have told the Waikato Times that the sweeps, more common in James Bond films than local government offices, are highly specialised and cost clients thousands of dollars.
